Parliamentary inquiry into the life insurance industry

BCNA often hears from individual members about how difficult it can be to access life or disability insurances linked to their superannuation policies. Many people tell us about the complexities associated with making a claim and the amount of paperwork required.

BCNA is preparing a submission to a federal parliamentary inquiry into the life insurance industry that is seeking to address some of these issues. Our submission will focus on two key areas:

  • the need to protect opt-out insurance policies that are currently attached to most superannuation policies to ensure people have cover if they are injured or become unwell
  • the need to improve dispute resolution processes for people who have trouble accessing their entitlements.

We would like to hear from you if:

  • you have had difficulty making a disability insurance claim because you have had to stop work due to your cancer
  • you have not been able to claim your life insurance when withdrawing your superannuation under the terminal illness provision.
